Volume Two, Devil's Game, Chapter Thirty-Nine: The Objective Remains Unchanged
After a brief lull, Lu Yi’s livestream room instantly erupted into excitement.
“Black Phosphorus Sauce: What, what? Did I just see that right? The streamer one-shot the Guardian!”
“Sweetheart Yiyi: It was an instant kill! Streamer, how did you do that? What was that move just now?”
“I’m a Husky: So unexpected. I thought it would be a fierce battle, but it vanished in the blink of an eye.”
“Camel Gold: Exactly. I had been paying attention to this Guardian, thinking it would give the streamer a tough fight. But instead, the Guardian got one-shot on sight.”
“Phoenix: Was that move from the bracelet’s ability?”
“I’m a Husky: No way. How could the organizer provide such a powerful offensive item? At this rate, how can the Guardians pass, let alone the other participants?”
“Minister of Ink: It should be the bracelet’s ability, and that move just now…”
Although the Minister of Ink didn’t finish his sentence, some already understood what he meant.
“Wolf in the Poisonous Mist Valley: Right, it must be that move. But what exactly was the organizer thinking? Can they just let such skills be used casually?”
The host was naturally aware that many were criticizing the organizers’ decisions, and at this moment, he too was under the stern gaze of the bigwigs.
“What do you plan to do? We didn’t come here just to watch a human solo the Guardian,” Dreamfu’s fortress master said, his voice still gentle but filled with anger that the host could sense.
Another bigwig calmly questioned, “You said this ability was just a gimmick, with a one in ten thousand chance. How come Lu Yi triggered it right away?”
The host hurriedly bowed and said, “My lords, I would never deceive you about equipment information. This was purely Lu Yi’s luck.”
“Hmm?” Dreamfu looked at the host.
The host quickly added, “I will modify the Guardian to destroy that equipment.”
“No, since the reward has been given, there’s no need to take it back. Besides, randomness is part of the fun,” Dreamfu smiled and said to the host.
“Yes, yes.” The host nodded repeatedly and began to channel energy to dry his sweat.
“Let this one slide, but there can’t be a next time. Alright, don’t let the atmosphere go cold. Do what you must,” Dreamfu added.
The host nodded repeatedly and retreated from the mental space, looking at the still somewhat stunned audience. In his mind, he resolved never to give Lu Yi offensive random equipment again—only defensive or utility-type random gear.
He simply didn’t believe that with such a change, Lu Yi could still one-shot the Guardian. After imagining the scenes to come, he shuddered at the thought of Lu Yi possibly moving under attack with defensive gear.
He quickly shook his head. No, he wouldn’t give defensive gear either—only utility-type. Having made his decision, the host began to uplift the atmosphere once more.
Meanwhile, inside the game, Lu Yi’s expression darkened slightly. He had come to draw aggro, not to raise the difficulty.
Anyone could see that after the Guardian was slain, its resurrection would surely be stronger. If the Guardian could be killed by the same move again, resurrecting it would be pointless.
Killing the Guardian was exhilarating, but it was not in the best interests of Lu Yi or those behind him. Lu Yi hoped for a tense but manageable situation.
Those behind him also wished to spark excitement with dangerous or thrilling scenes. Now that Lu Yi had pulled off a one-shot kill, it might affect what came next.
Still, no matter how he thought about it, Lu Yi couldn’t just stand there dazed. He had to do what he could control.
Lu Yi turned and looked at Peng Kai and Guo Fu. “Why haven’t you left yet?”
“B-Boss, we want to follow you,” Peng Kai said with a sycophantic smile. Guo Fu nodded beside him.
Apparently, they really saw Lu Yi as a big shot who could one-shot the Guardian. Lu Yi smiled faintly. “Is that what you think?”
Peng Kai and Guo Fu nodded repeatedly.
Lu Yi stretched his neck and said calmly but confidently, “What a pity. I killed the Guardian. Judging by his last words, he was clearly angry, but he was destined not to take me down.”
“Y-Yes, boss, you’re mighty!” Peng Kai quickly responded.
Lu Yi looked at the two with amusement. “Tell me, if the Guardian keeps failing to beat me, won’t he vent his anger on others? Like you two following me—after all, dealing with you would be easy.”
Guo Fu immediately understood. He abandoned the close tree and ran off to the side without hesitation. Peng Kai caught on and limped after Guo Fu, shouting, “Wait for me!”
Lu Yi checked his watch; the Guardian’s resurrection was still over three minutes away. He clenched his fist, feeling his own state. “Is this the magic aura?”
“Black Phosphorus Sauce: Streamer, streamer, no outsiders now—explain, please!”
“Sweetheart Yiyi: Streamer, what exactly is that bracelet? Did we all misjudge it?”
“I’m a Husky: Streamer, what’s the name of that bracelet? Such a powerful item must be on the official list. Missing out would be a huge loss.”
Seeing Guo Fu and the others disappear, Lu Yi ran back the way he came and began to explain, “Friends, honestly, I didn’t expect this outcome either.
“This bracelet can randomly grant the palm an ability. The chance of generating a physical attack is 5%, but the chance to unleash the kind of attack just now is 0.01%.”
“Black Phosphorus Sauce: One in ten thousand chance? Streamer, you’re not lying, right?”
“Sweetheart Yiyi: Such a low chance, and you actually triggered it? Incredible.”
“I’m a Husky: That’s pure luck! Streamer, are you a lucky charm from the gods themselves?”
“Lucky charm? What’s that supposed to mean?” Lu Yi gave a wry smile.
“Sweetheart Yiyi: Streamer, you said you didn’t plan to kill the Guardian, but now it’s come to this. What’s your plan?”
“Black Phosphorus Sauce: Yeah, streamer, are you still going to carry out your plan?”
Lu Yi took a deep breath. “Friends, the Guardian’s death has indeed greatly affected my plan. I believe the revived Guardian will return with even greater power to seek revenge.
“My worst-case scenario now is falling into a duel. Simply put, it’s like two cowboys with guns—each capable of killing the other. Whoever gets hit is likely to die.
“But the worst part is, my opponent can resurrect.”
“Sweetheart Yiyi: From what the streamer says, that really seems to be the case.”
“Black Phosphorus Sauce: Isn’t that basically a fight to the death? Streamer, that’s way too risky.”
“I’m a Husky: Wait, if the streamer puts himself in the Guardian’s shoes, that means he’s not without options?”
“Exactly.” Seeing the Husky’s message, Lu Yi nodded. “Although things have changed, my plan remains the same.”
Lu Yi raised his right index finger to the sky and said firmly, “I will make the Guardian leave the stage early.”
“Sweetheart Yiyi: Awesome, streamer!”
“Sweetheart Yueyue: So handsome, streamer!”
“I’m a Husky: Go for it, streamer! Face him head-on!”
“One Fish: Go! Beat him!”
“Minister of Ink: Beat him! But this Guardian isn’t like the previous two.”
As Lu Yi threw out his tough words, the livestream chat and gift messages exploded once again.
