Volume One, Chapter 94: Why Did He Do This?
The other pairs’ public tasks were revealed one by one.
Chu Muxing and Lin Yue were to blow a bubble from kissing bubble gum together; Fu Yanting and Lin Hua’s task was for the boy to hold the girl and do thirty squats; Chu Xirui and Su Beican had to create a sand painting together, using each other’s portraits as the subject. Finally, Lin Xing and Tang Xinyan were tasked to take a heart gesture photo together and post it on their social media.
Yu Mo walked over to the director behind the camera and spoke in a low voice.
“Director, can’t the CPs be changed? Can I apply for a different hidden task?”
She truly didn’t want to be paired with Mu Shaozhou, especially not to make lollipops together and then feed each other. She just couldn’t do it.
Zhang Zheng wiped the sweat from his forehead with a handkerchief, looking troubled.
“That’s not possible. Without a proper reason, arbitrarily switching CPs might cause backlash from the viewers.”
In his eyes, the current five pairs were already the best arrangement. Although Fu Yanting and Lin Hua weren’t popular, the two clearly liked each other. Perhaps there were even fans shipping them now.
Remembering yesterday’s events, Zhang Zheng hesitated briefly before continuing.
“Yu Mo, you probably don’t know this, but after you went upstairs the day before yesterday, the Young Master had all the food you’d eaten sent for testing. He was determined to find out who had tampered with it. The results just came out…”
Yu Mo frowned. Would Mu Shaozhou really go to such lengths for her?
She’d already guessed that it was Xie Mengqi who had meddled with her food, but she thought he was just doing her a small favor.
She asked, “Why would Mu Shaozhou do that?”
Zhang Zheng went on, “The results showed that Xie Mengqi had added something to your food. So now, not only has she been kicked off the show, but given how much time has passed, the Young Master has probably already punished her.”
Though he wasn’t sure how Mu Shaozhou would deal with Xie Mengqi, judging by his attitude toward Yu Mo, it was likely the entire Xie family would suffer.
Sure enough, when Yu Mo unlocked her phone and searched for Xie Mengqi, she saw trending topics and news about her.
She casually clicked on one article—it was a photo of Xie Mengqi being escorted to the police station, followed by updates about the Xie family.
The whole Xie family had moved out of Shanghai overnight, as if they had left in a hurry, or more like they had been driven away.
Staring at the deserted Xie family residence, Yu Mo was convinced it was the latter, and highly likely Mu Shaozhou’s doing.
But why? Was he really doing all this for her sake? Or did he simply loathe Xie Mengqi and her entire family?
Yu Mo couldn’t figure it out, and before she could dwell on it further, the guests at the show had already started their public tasks.
Chu Muxing and Lin Yue began blowing the kissing bubble gum together.
Each took a pink, heart-shaped bubble gum from the production team and tried to blow a big bubble together.
It was the first time Yu Mo had heard of kissing bubble gum; she watched them, completely absorbed.
Chu Muxing managed to blow a huge bubble first, but Lin Yue failed. The task required them to blow a bubble together and touch them to count as a success.
Fu Yanting’s expression darkened, his face like burnt pot bottom. Lin Hua whispered softly, “Should we… ask the director for a different task?”
Fu Yanting immediately vetoed that. “No need.”
He wrapped one arm around Lin Hua’s shoulders, the other cradling under her knees, and tried to lift her up in one go.
But he failed; Lin Hua nearly toppled over.
Fu Yanting tried again and barely managed to lift her. Lin Hua clung tightly to his neck, terrified she’d fall.
Fu Yanting tried to do a squat, but was already panting before he even started. His tense legs barely bent before, in the next second, he collapsed to the floor, and Lin Hua crashed heavily onto him.
The staff had been ready to start counting, but hadn’t expected Fu Yanting to suddenly fall. They hurried over to help him up.
“Mr. Fu, please be careful. Try again.”
Fu Yanting’s face looked awful, flushed a deep purple. He picked Lin Hua up again, but once more collapsed under the weight.
This time, the staff realized it wasn’t an accident—he simply had no strength.
Lin Hua wasn’t particularly tall, and she was very slim, probably under a hundred pounds. Yet Fu Yanting, tall as he was, couldn’t manage to hold even a hundred-pound Lin Hua, making the scene feel like a resounding slap to his pride.
The live broadcast chat exploded.
[Fu Yanting’s all show and no substance, looks good but useless, hahaha.]
[Look at him, sweating from just that little effort. Why does he seem so feeble?]
[Lin Hua’s taste isn’t great either. I thought Fu Yanting was so strong, turns out he’s completely spent.]
Yu Mo didn’t rush to do the lollipop task with Mu Shaozhou, instead watching the live chat comments with amusement. The more she read, the better her mood became.
Mu Shaozhou, on the other hand, was fully focused on making lollipops, his eyes never leaving his work. The way he looked when he concentrated made countless viewers swoon.
Chu Xirui and Su Beican were busy with their sand painting. With their photos placed before them, they scribbled aimlessly in the pile of sand.
Chu Xirui pulled Su Beican’s hand, “That’s not right!”
She drew a couple of creatures with eyes on the glass, which appeared on the big screen, sending viewers into fits of laughter.
Chu Xirui put her hands on her hips and pouted. “This is way too hard.”
Mu Shaozhou quickly finished the lollipops and placed them in the freezer. He then turned to their hidden task.
He grabbed a carton of yogurt, scooped a spoonful, and brought it towards Yu Mo’s lips.
Yu Mo hurriedly refused—this was too obvious; one look and everyone would know their hidden task.
She placed the yogurt back on the table and whispered, “Mu Shaozhou, why don’t you just tell everyone our hidden task outright?”
Mu Shaozhou tilted his refined face slightly, an eyebrow raised, his long, ink-dark eyes cool and detached.
He brought the spoon to her lips. “Why not?”
With no choice, Yu Mo opened her mouth and ate the yogurt. Immediately after, he gave her another full spoon.
When she finished, Mu Shaozhou opened another yogurt, placed the spoon in her hand, and said in a low voice, “Your turn to feed me.”
His sharp gaze was fixed on Yu Mo, a hint of anticipation in his eyes.
Yu Mo took the yogurt and spoon, ready to feed him, but her grip slipped—the yogurt flew out of her hand, landing squarely on Mu Shaozhou.
And, as luck would have it, it spilled right on his lap.
