Volume One, Chapter Thirty-Six: Irrefutable Evidence of the Mistress
It was Yu Mo’s voice.
“Grandpa, I will definitely secure the management rights of the pharmaceutical factory…”
“You must wake up soon…”
Fu Yanting’s brows furrowed even deeper.
Yu Mo’s words sent a tremor through his heart, as if he was transported back to that early summer when they first met at nineteen.
The day they became acquainted.
Her appearance and smile were radiant, and her attire matched her vibrant aura—she exuded a passionate energy.
But somehow, she had grown more subdued, spoke much less, and became melancholic.
She clung to him every day, and he began to resent her constant presence.
“Can’t you stop being so shameless? Don’t you have a life of your own? Do you have to be with me all the time?”
Such words were the ones he spoke to Yu Mo most frequently.
The audio continued, footsteps echoed.
Then came Lin Hua’s voice.
“Yu Mo, I live in your shadow every day…”
“How am I any worse than you? I am now the heiress of the Chu family…”
“…I am the future Mrs. Fu. What do you have to compete with me?”
It was Lin Hua’s voice, but Fu Yanting had never heard her speak with such venom.
Her tone was chilling, sharp, and fiercely aggressive.
This couldn’t be something Lin Hua would say.
Yet the voice was unmistakably hers.
Fu Yanting’s impression of Lin Hua began to waver.
He couldn’t help but ask himself inwardly.
Was Lin Hua truly as gentle and lovely as she appeared in front of him?
What was she like in front of others?
The audio continued.
Yu Mo’s voice, steady and dignified.
A tone he hardly ever heard from her.
“Lin Hua, I never intended to compete with you…”
“…Since you like Fu Yanting, I’ll let you have him.”
“Lin Hua, what are you trying to do!”
“Haha, Yu Mo, since that’s the case, let’s see whom Fu Yanting will believe.”
Then came a chaotic jumble of voices, followed by the beeping of machines.
Fu Yanting had no heart left to listen to the rest.
He already knew what happened afterwards.
He had rushed into the hospital room and unleashed a torrent of accusations at Yu Mo.
He hadn’t even listened to a single word of explanation from her.
Had he really wronged her?
Was it a mistake to leave Yu Mo and be with Lin Hua?
His thoughts raced wildly.
A woman appeared on the stage.
Yu Mo and Chu Xirui also turned their gaze to the stage.
She paused for half a second in surprise.
It was Sun Jingyi, Fu Yanting’s mother.
She wasn’t supposed to appear today, so why did she suddenly come on stage?
Sun Jingyi adjusted the microphone, her expression solemn, and addressed the guests below.
“I am Sun Jingyi. I want to speak now about my son’s engagement to Lin Hua. I do not give my approval to this marriage, and this is a decision I make on behalf of the Fu family.”
With these words, the audience was astonished.
All attention converged on Sun Jingyi, the matriarch of the Fu family.
Sun Jingyi continued.
“And regarding Yu Mo, I have something to say to her. Mo Mo, Auntie knows you have been deeply hurt by Fu Yanting. He was fickle and seduced by another woman—that is his personal fault.
But the rest of the Fu family still cares for you. Even if you cannot become our daughter-in-law, I have always treated you as my own. In the future, if you ever need anything from me, do not hesitate to ask. I will do all I can to help you.”
She finished and bowed slightly to the audience.
At once, murmurs rippled through the crowd.
“What’s going on? Is Lin Hua the mistress? My reading comprehension isn’t that bad, is it? That’s what she means, right?”
“I always thought Lin Hua didn’t seem like a good person. I heard that after she left the Chu family, she grew up in the slums. People from there can hardly be truly kind and pure.”
“No wonder Madam Fu opposes Lin Hua so strongly. She must have always intended Yu Mo to be her daughter-in-law.”
As soon as Sun Jingyi stepped down, Fu Yanting hurried over.
“Mom, how could you say such things? There are so many reporters in the audience.”
Clearly, he was anxious.
Although he had just listened to Yu Mo’s recording and cared less for Lin Hua’s reputation now, as the eldest son of the Fu family, he still had to maintain his image.
Now, all of Magic City must know he cheated.
He would surely be branded a scoundrel.
Sun Jingyi remained calm, adjusting her dress.
“I simply told the truth. What is there to fear? Since I raised my own son to be a scoundrel, I must reflect on myself. What I said today is to warn more girls from being hurt by you.”
Lin Hua approached.
She anxiously took Fu Yanting’s arm, looking bewildered.
She spoke to Sun Jingyi.
“Auntie, saying such things, where does that leave Yanting’s dignity? And…”
She bit her lip.
“Yanting and I truly love each other. It’s not as you think. I did not steal him from Yu Mo.”
Lin Hua was furious inside.
That troublesome old woman—her words just now.
Hadn’t she cemented Lin Hua as the mistress?
She wanted to rip her mouth apart so she could never speak again.
Sun Jingyi didn’t even spare Lin Hua a glance.
“He wants his dignity? If he truly cared, he shouldn’t have fooled around with you.”
With that, Sun Jingyi ignored them and walked toward Yu Mo.
Lin Hua panicked and went straight onto the stage.
She faced the audience.
“Yanting and I truly love each other. When we got together, he had already broken up with Yu Mo. All my classmates know this. There’s a reunion at the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine next week. If you don’t believe me, I can invite reporters to attend and have my classmates clarify in person.”
She spoke sincerely, and some in the audience believed her.
Yet many remained skeptical.
After all, Madam Fu’s words carried more credibility, and Lin Hua was an unknown figure—few would trust her.
The reporters on site were immediately energized.
They pressed Lin Hua for the date, time, and location of the reunion.
Lin Hua, left with no choice, reluctantly shared the details.
She looked toward Yu Mo.
Yu Mo likely wouldn’t attend that day.
Yu Mo hadn’t planned to go, but upon hearing that Lin Hua would ask classmates to clear her name at the reunion, she was tempted to see how Lin Hua would persuade them to speak for her.
She folded her arms, took a glass of juice, and sipped lightly.
A smile touched her lips.
She was definitely attending this reunion.
Fu Yanting pulled Lin Hua off the stage, his face no longer indulgent as before, but full of anger and suspicion.
He played the recording from his phone for Lin Hua.
“Lin Hua, how do you explain deliberately pulling out grandpa’s oxygen tube to frame Yu Mo?”
