Volume One, Chapter 29: Hurry and Lock the Two Together!
Everyone’s gaze was fixed on Fu Yanting. Lin Hua, however, watched him with calm composure.
Manager Yao was incredibly foolish. Was there even a need to ask about this vote? Of course, Fu Yanting would cast it for her. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have gone to such lengths to bring her back to the pharmaceutical factory.
Fu Yanting propped his arms on the conference table, hands clasped, his eyes drifting to Yu Mo. He searched her eyes for a hint of a plea, but found none. Her gaze was tranquil, with ripples beneath the surface that could drown a man. He withdrew his gaze and spoke in a low voice.
“I’ll decide how to cast my vote this afternoon, Director Huang. I have other matters to attend to, so I’ll take my leave.”
With that, he rose and left the conference room.
Lin Hua was stunned, not expecting Fu Yanting to make such a decision. She wanted to chase after him, to get clarity, but with so many directors present, she couldn’t simply get up and leave.
Director Huang’s displeasure was evident, but Fu Yanting, as the sole heir of the Fu Group, had to be afforded some respect.
He spoke, “In that case, let the results of this morning’s vote stand, and we’ll make the final decision this afternoon.”
He glanced at Lin Hua. He’d always doubted her business acumen, and there had been mishaps with Lin Xing. Now, it was clear to him: Yu Mo not only had the support of the heir, but also Lin Xing’s favor. Yu Mo was the most suitable candidate to manage the pharmaceutical factory.
The meeting room gradually emptied until only Yu Mo and Lin Hua remained in the vast space.
Lin Hua still sat there, looking at Yu Mo with utter disdain, no longer bothering to feign her usual affectation.
“Yu Mo, do you really think everything’s settled just because you have Lin Xing? Now you’ve got the heir, but I advise you to keep your distance from Lin Xing. Otherwise, you’ll end up with nothing—lose both sides and gain nothing.”
Yu Mo stood, her long legs carrying her to Lin Hua’s side. She lowered her head, gazing down at Lin Hua’s meticulously made-up face, her tone indifferent.
“Oh, that’s because you have no other tree to cling to besides Fu Yanting. If you’re jealous, just say it outright, don’t pretend you’re doing me a favor. Since you have the ability to get Fu Yanting to transfer you back to the factory, why didn’t he just cast his vote for you? Seems his feelings for you are mediocre at best. Ha.”
Yu Mo tucked her long hair behind her ear, laughed softly, and turned to leave, leaving Lin Hua seething alone.
Yu Mo exited the conference room. Manager Yao quickly found her.
“Miss Yu, Young Master Fu requests you in his office.”
“Understood.”
Yu Mo walked toward Fu Yanting’s office, her high heels clicking on the floor. Upon entering, she saw Fu Yanting sitting rigidly in his chair.
“What do you want?” Yu Mo didn’t bother to find a seat, preferring to finish quickly.
“Sit down first.” As soon as Fu Yanting saw her, he sensed the distant aura emanating from her—something he’d never felt before. He lowered his head slightly. It seemed Yu Mo was truly angry with him this time.
“No need. Speak quickly, I have other matters to attend to.” Yu Mo raised her wrist, checking the time on her watch. She hadn’t seen her pretty boy all day, and she was starting to miss him.
Fu Yanting looked up again, a trace of guilt on his face. His voice was soft now, no longer carrying the harshness of before.
“Yu Mo, I know you’re angry with me.”
“I’m not.”
“Yu Mo, I’ll be holding an engagement banquet with Lin Hua next week.”
“Very well, I wish you both happiness,” Yu Mo replied calmly, thinking it a good thing. At least the two would be locked together, unable to harm anyone else.
Fu Yanting frowned. “You don’t care? You used to look forward to our engagement banquet. I know Lin Hua and I hurt you—could you forgive me, stop being angry with me? Even if we can’t be the closest of lovers, we can still be friends, can’t we? There’s no need for things to be so tense now. I truly appreciate your help with the factory. I hold the decisive vote; Yu Mo, if you promise me not to be with the heir, I’ll vote for you.”
Fu Yanting finished, waiting solemnly for Yu Mo’s answer.
Yu Mo seemed to find it all hilarious, unable to suppress a giggle behind her hand.
“Fu Yanting, your possessiveness is truly something else. You’ve eaten what’s in your bowl and still eye what’s in the pot. Where do you get the nerve to ask me to break things off with the heir? How much confidence do you have? As for the factory, I trust fate and do my duty. I’m here to manage it on Grandfather’s behalf—it has nothing to do with you, not now or ever. I want nothing to do with you, not even the slightest bit. As for your engagement banquet with Lin Hua, I won’t attend. I’ll wish you both a lifetime together—may the harlot and the dog have everlasting happiness.”
Yu Mo didn’t wait for Fu Yanting’s response, turning to leave.
Fu Yanting got up, hurriedly catching her wrist.
“Yu Mo, the heir isn’t a good match for you. You won’t have a good outcome with him.”
Lin Hua arrived at Fu Yanting’s office. She opened the door to see him gripping Yu Mo’s wrist, the two gazing deeply at each other. She didn’t know what to make of it.
“Brother Yanting, what’s going on?”
Her eyes brimmed with tears.
Fu Yanting was momentarily distracted. Seizing the opportunity, Yu Mo freed her wrist.
“Lin Hua, it’s not what you imagine. Your Brother Yanting didn’t mean to threaten me with his vote.”
With that, she turned and left.
Lin Hua bit her lip, speaking aggrievedly, “Brother Yanting, why didn’t you vote for me?”
Could it be that Fu Yanting really intended to give his vote to Yu Mo?
“You know how much I want to stay at the factory. I want to build it up with you.”
Fu Yanting’s expression was grim, Yu Mo’s words echoing in his mind: ‘I want nothing to do with you, not now or ever.’
Yu Mo was so eager to sever all ties with him? Was she simply pretending?
His thoughts were chaotic, and he had no patience for Lin Hua. He returned to his seat, speaking coldly.
“Lin Hua, just go back. I’ll cast my vote for you this afternoon.”
He didn’t look up again, burying himself in work.
Lin Hua stood there, feeling incredibly wronged. Now, Fu Yanting even addressed her by name directly. Swallowing her bitterness, she said, “Brother Yanting, let’s visit Grandfather later.”
“Alright,” Fu Yanting replied without lifting his head.
Lin Hua turned and left the office.
In the afternoon meeting, Fu Yanting cast his vote for Lin Hua.
Director Huang was deeply dissatisfied with the result, but there was nothing to criticize about it. He simply instructed Manager Yao not to rush the process of having Lin Hua take over the factory.
Yu Mo had already anticipated this outcome, so she wasn’t surprised.
She left the factory and headed straight to the hospital.
She hadn’t visited Grandfather Fu in a while; it was time to see the old man.
At the hospital, Grandfather Fu had been moved from the intensive care unit to a regular ward, but he still hadn’t regained consciousness.
Yu Mo sat in the chair beside his bed, speaking guiltily.
“Grandfather, I’ll make sure to secure the factory’s management. I won’t let Lin Hua have the opportunity. Don’t worry—I’ll visit often. Please wake up soon…”
The ward door opened.
Lin Hua stood in the doorway, holding a bouquet.
Yu Mo ignored her, getting up to leave.
“Yu Mo,” Lin Hua called, stopping her.
“Though I’m taking over the factory now, I’ll still need your assistance. You wouldn’t simply stand by and let the factory fall into crisis, would you? Grandfather wouldn’t be at ease if you did.”
Lin Hua glanced at Grandfather Fu lying in bed.
Yu Mo smiled faintly.
“Of course, I wouldn’t let the factory fall into crisis without intervening.”
She would personally see things through to the end.
