Chapter 111: Special Ability
Page 1/3
“Lord, I’m going in!”
After Chu Ping gulped down the last bottle of life potion, his complexion looked noticeably rosier.
Then—
He bent forward in a stretching motion, brought both hands together, and jabbed them into the ground!
“Pfft! Pfft!”
“Pfft! Pfft! Pfft!”
Chu Ping’s clasped hands began spinning rapidly, but each time they turned halfway, they reversed direction, like the needle of a metronome swinging back and forth on only one side.
His joints lacked the range of motion needed for him to burrow like an actual drill.
Even so…
Chu Ping’s digging speed was astonishingly fast.
In the blink of an eye, he had bored a pitch-black hole into the frozen earth!
Then he plunged inside, leaving only his legs sticking out.
As Chu Ping burrowed deeper, Ye Da saw a small mound of earth rapidly bulging along the surface. Like a fish diving into water, Chu Ping vanished directly beneath the ground.
The mound raced toward the bottom of the valley…
Standing above the valley and looking down at the flower field, Ye Da saw one of the giant devouring insect flowers suddenly sway before collapsing with a thunderous crash!
That was the very flower that had swallowed the monster bird.
When it fell, its pouch split open. Countless streams of floral fluid poured out, along with the corpse of the monster bird.
But—
The bird, which had originally possessed sleek, luxuriant feathers, had been reduced to a completely featherless carcass by the time it fell from the giant devouring insect flower. Even its exposed skin was covered in bloody wounds, leaving it in a horrifying state.
How long had it been?
From the moment the monster bird was caught and devoured by the giant devouring insect flower, surely no more than ten minutes had passed.
And it had already become this?
The corrosive power of that floral fluid was truly terrifying.
Ye Da immediately felt fortunate that he had not gone down there.
“Rumble!”
“Rumble!!”
As the first giant devouring insect flower crashed to the ground, more flowers around it began collapsing one after another.
Ye Da did not need to guess. This was undoubtedly Chu Ping’s handiwork.
He had never imagined that the boy possessed such an ability.
Swish!
Swish, swish!
As the giant devouring insect flowers collapsed and died, they instantly transformed into countless glowing orbs.
But just as Chu Ping poked his head out of the soil and tried to collect them—
“Crack!”
A giant devouring carnivorous flower suddenly bent its stem.
Then it poured a mass of floral fluid directly over Chu Ping’s head.
“Arrrgh!!!”
Chu Ping let out a shriek like a slaughtered pig.

Ye Da was also badly startled by the sudden turn of events.
“What the hell!”
His pupils contracted. In a fluster, he condensed a spirit-energy bow, formed a fire-element spirit-energy arrow, and shot it at the giant devouring insect flower that had poured down the fluid.
Whoosh!
The spirit-energy arrow struck the flower’s center.
Boom!!!
A burst of flames flashed, and the giant devouring insect flower exploded on the spot.
Countless droplets of floral fluid splashed everywhere, each emitting wisps of white smoke. Before long, Ye Da caught the sharp odor of industrial chemicals.
As expected, the giant devouring insect flower destroyed by the fire-element spirit-energy arrow—
Dropped nothing at all.
It seemed that using some trick, such as fire or another method, to destroy the flower field and obtain the drops from the giant devouring insect flowers was essentially impossible.
“Arrrgh!!!”
Although the giant devouring insect flower that had attacked Chu Ping was dead, Chu Ping’s screams did not stop.
He must truly have been in agony.
After all, that floral fluid could melt a bird’s feathers within minutes. It was practically sulfuric acid.
Yet even in such a state, Chu Ping still wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to collect the giant devouring insect flowers’ drops.
Ye Da saw a red, badly corroded arm extend from the earthen hole that had been drenched in acid. It groped blindly across the ground for the items contained within the glowing orbs dropped by the giant devouring carnivorous flowers.
This time, however, Chu Ping did not dare stick his head out. He was probably afraid of having more fluid poured over it.
Swish, swish!
Swish, swish, swish!!!
As Chu Ping fumbled around, the pouches of countless giant devouring insect flowers turned toward him.
Every one of them looked ready to prey upon Chu Ping.
One of the giant devouring insect flowers even spat a mouthful of floral fluid directly toward him!
Sizzle!
The fluid melted a small hole in the ground, which hissed and smoked.
Fortunately, the flower had aimed poorly, and Chu Ping escaped unharmed.
Even so—
The aggressiveness of these giant devouring insect flowers still left Ye Da stunned.
For plants, these flowers were absurdly powerful!
Thankfully, he had not rashly gone down there.
Otherwise, if hundreds of those spraying flowers had attacked him at once…
Ye Da drew in a sharp breath.
“Chu Ping, stop collecting them and come back!”
The sight before him had given Ye Da quite a fright. Though he could provide cover by firing arrows from above the valley, there was no way he could single-handedly wipe out an entire army for Chu Ping.
“But, Lord…”

Chu Ping surfaced and still wanted to say something.
But in the next instant—
When he saw countless giant devouring insect flowers turn toward him, open their pouches, and begin spraying floral fluid, Chu Ping hurriedly withdrew his head into the hole and shouted, “I’m coming back right now!”
Whoosh!
Ye Da condensed a stone arrow and shot down another giant devouring insect flower that was preparing to pour acid on Chu Ping.
When the flower crashed to the ground, a bronze treasure chest fell from its pouch.
No one knew how long the bronze chest had remained inside the giant devouring insect flower. Its surface was completely covered in thick verdigris, and it was impossible to tell whether the contents had been corroded as well.
The moment Ye Da saw the chest, his eyes lit up.
Unfortunately…
He could not retrieve it.
Staring at the flower field, Ye Da was genuinely at a loss.
Was there any way to kill all those damned flowers so he could go down and collect the treasure? Otherwise, if he went down now, he would probably suffer the same fate as Chu Ping.
Although Ye Da currently possessed a stone-skin enhancement, it covered only three of his four limbs. His torso and head were practically unprotected.
They could not possibly withstand the corrosive floral fluid.
“Poisonous smoke probably won’t work against carnivorous flowers, will it?”
Ye Da rubbed his chin thoughtfully. “Flowers don’t need to breathe, after all.”
“L-Lord…”
Chu Ping emerged from the soil again, but he looked utterly wretched.
His complexion had never been particularly fair, but now he looked like a boiled prawn. His entire body was bright red, and the surface of his skin had suffered severe ulceration, peeling away in strips.
Ye Da could even see the layer of dermis beneath his skin, riddled with tiny blood vessels.
Yet the worst of Chu Ping’s injuries were not on his body, but on his head.
His once-black hair had been drenched directly by the floral fluid of the giant devouring insect flower. Most of it had fallen out, leaving only a few strands above the back of his head and around his ears as proof that he had ever possessed hair.
His face was also nearly disfigured.
It was the kind of sight that made anyone who looked at him instinctively feel pain. He was truly pitiful.
“Are… are you all right?”
The moment Ye Da asked, his mouth went slightly dry.
The main problem was—
Anyone with eyes could tell at a glance that Chu Ping was very much not all right.
If a doctor saw him in that condition, he would probably be rushed straight into intensive care. Ye Da asked only because of Chu Ping’s unique supernatural ability.
Chu Ping possessed a certain degree of self-healing, which was why Ye Da asked whether he was still doing all right.
What a pity.
After receiving the Newcomer King’s reward, the first secondary profession Ye Da had awakened was Beast Tamer, not Healer. Otherwise, he could have provided Chu Ping with emergency treatment.
He looked truly miserable.
