Chapter 6: Everyday Life
Chapter 6: Daily Life
Lu Yun had no idea what type his awakened power belonged to, but judging by the force and color it unleashed earlier, he guessed it was either Dragon or Psychic. Whichever it was, both were incredibly powerful types—far beyond anything he had expected.
“Not bad, not bad, looks like luck is on my side!” He chuckled to himself.
However, recalling the tragic end of his previous life sent a chill through his heart. He quickly reined in his swelling pride and decided to keep this skill as his trump card, to be used only in the most critical moments.
………………………………………………
Another two days passed.
During these days, aside from mealtimes and rest, Lu Yun devoted every spare moment to the training regimen he had devised.
Physically, he ran and leapt madly around the pasture each day, to the point where Farmer Barry suspected he was ill and called in a vet. Only then did Lu Yun moderate his exertions.
As for his skills, Lu Yun found a large tree at the edge of the pasture. The trunk was now covered with dents from the repeated impacts of his headbutts. When he grew weary, he would stand under the shade and practice “Cry,” letting his piercing bleats echo across the entire Mareep Ranch.
Lu Yun opened his system and reviewed his attributes, nodding in satisfaction.
Species: Mareep
Level: 2 (73/100)
Skills: Tackle, Growl
Evaluation: An ordinary, farm-raised Mareep
Mareep, after all, was not a Bug-type Pokémon, so leveling up wasn’t as rapid as in his previous life. Still, Lu Yun was satisfied. Especially since this life’s environment was worlds apart from before—no danger, no shortage of food.
Suddenly, he remembered that according to the rules in his previous life’s Pokémon games, defeating opponents would grant experience. Perhaps he could also accelerate his growth through battles?
Eyes brightening at the thought, Lu Yun decided to put the theory to the test.
He searched the pasture for quite some time before finally spotting a thin, scrawny Mareep in a corner.
“Always pick the softest persimmon,” he thought with a sly grin.
The skinny Mareep glanced at the grinning weirdo before it and chose to ignore him, lowering its head to munch on the lush grass.
Lu Yun steadied himself, drew a deep breath into his lungs, and focused his mind.
“Growl!”
A high, wrenching bleat burst from his throat.
The scrawny Mareep had no clue what was wrong with its counterpart, but as the noise assaulted its ears, it felt dizzy and disoriented. Without hesitation, it turned tail and fled.
Watching the retreating Mareep, Lu Yun wondered, “It’s running away, so why hasn’t the system given me a ‘defeated’ message? Is this not enough?”
“Let’s try again!”
“Tackle!”
With excitement, Lu Yun’s horns glowed faintly white as he charged madly after the fleeing Mareep.
The scrawny Mareep, seeing the maniac barreling toward it, was baffled. “Is this sheep crazy?”
Even a clay figurine has a temper; the scrawny Mareep halted, its own horns flashing with white light as it turned to meet the charge.
“Good!” Lu Yun was delighted—this was the perfect test of his recent training.
“Bang!”
A loud collision rang out, the powerful impact gusting wind that swept the thick grass aside. Lu Yun’s sturdy forehooves gouged two deep furrows in the earth from the force.
The scrawny Mareep let out a miserable cry, tumbling backwards in a roll before scrambling up and limping away, howling in alarm.
This time, Lu Yun didn’t pursue; he’d already heard the system’s prompt.
“Ding!”
“Experience +5”
Seeing the notification, Lu Yun felt a surge of joy. “Ha! It works!”
His confidence grown, Lu Yun gazed at the nearby Mareep grazing in the field, envisioning a bright future for himself.
Just as he was about to seize the momentum and level up to three before sunset, a forceful bleat rang out.
A robust Mareep, brimming with energy, charged toward him.
Trailing behind was the scrawny Mareep from before.
“Oh? Brought backup?” Lu Yun’s spirit blazed with battle fervor. His horns shone with a dazzling white light as he dashed forward.
“Tackle!”
The strong Mareep was momentarily stunned by his aggression. It hadn’t expected its opponent to be so bold.
“Trying to intimidate me?” Angered, the strong Mareep gathered its own energy into its horns and charged to meet Lu Yun.
On the vast green field, two pale yellow figures, horns aglow in white, rushed headlong at each other.
Lu Yun sprinted faster, the energy on his horns growing ever more intense. As he watched the powerful form before him, he couldn’t help but admire the opponent’s strength.
“But…”
“I am stronger!”
With a shout, Lu Yun burst forward with renewed speed toward the burly Mareep.
“Woof!”
Suddenly, just as the two were about to collide, a deep blue figure leapt between them.
Lu Yun, unable to halt his momentum, crashed into it with a thud.
Instead of sending the interloper flying, he felt a solid resistance, and the force rebounded, flinging him backward to roll across the grass.
Regaining his composure, Lu Yun looked up to see the deep blue figure standing unaffected.
It was a canine Pokémon, covered in coffee-colored fur with a deep blue, glossy mantle draped across its back, shielding its hindquarters. Its face bore two keen, bright eyes radiating seriousness and justice, while creamy fur formed a cross on its brow.
“Herdier?” Lu Yun exclaimed in surprise at the majestic canine Pokémon before him.
Herdier sniffed, crouched low, and growled a warning at the burly Mareep, who had also been knocked flying.
The strong Mareep, so aggressive moments before, instantly wilted, bleating plaintively at Herdier before looking to Lu Yun.
“Huh?”
