Chapter 114: Attributes
Chapter 4: Attributes
From the sensations emanating from his body and limbs, Lu Yun could roughly discern that he was a humanoid Pokémon. Yet the specifics remained unclear. At this moment, a system interface displaying detailed attributes became crucial.
With a thought, the attribute panel from the system unfolded before Lu Yun’s eyes.
...
Species: Machop
Level: 4
Ability: Guts
Skills: Low Kick, Leer, Focus Energy, Confuse Ray
Evaluation: A peculiar Machop; something seems to be stirring deep within its core.
Held Items: [Individual Value Enhancer], [Individual Value Enhancer], [Terrakion’s Shattering Shoulder Guards], [Zygarde Core].
...
“Oh?”
A spark of surprise lit up in Lu Yun’s eyes. After his previous life as a Haxorus, the system’s attribute panel seemed to have upgraded. Alongside the original sections—“Species,” “Level,” “Skills,” and “Evaluation”—two new categories had appeared: “Ability” and “Held Items.”
This brought Lu Yun a measure of delight.
“Could it be that the system gradually upgrades with each cycle of reincarnation?”
A faint conjecture blossomed within his mind. He began to daydream: if his guess was correct, perhaps in the future his attribute panel would reveal even deeper information. Things like “Individual Values” and “Effort Values” from the games of his past life...
Lu Yun carefully scanned the attribute panel from top to bottom.
“Machop, huh?”
“Not bad at all.”
This humanoid form felt quite comfortable to Lu Yun, especially considering he had lived over twenty years as a human before transmigrating. Although his previous life as a Haxorus had been rich and tumultuous, it had lasted less than two years in total.
By comparison, a human-like body was far more comfortable.
The Machop line boasted strong innate talent in physical attack, which perfectly complemented the effects of his [Terrakion’s Shattering Shoulder Guards]. Sharing the same two-stage evolution as his previous life’s Haxorus, the potential for growth was considerable. Coupled with the system’s unchanging stone function, there was ample room for development.
Its final form, Machamp, ranked among the elite of Fighting-type Pokémon in the entire world.
Overall, Lu Yun felt quite satisfied with his identity as a Machop this lifetime.
As for level, thanks to a mysterious influx of experience, Lu Yun had just awakened at level four. The system’s various bonuses had helped him bypass some of the vulnerability typical of a weak Pokémon.
Regarding his ability:
“Guts?”
Lu Yun raised an eyebrow in mild surprise. During his human days, he had trained several Machops in the game world and had a vague memory of their typical abilities. Most Machops possessed either “Steadfast” or “No Guard,” the former boosting speed when flinching, the latter increasing attack and accuracy.
Occasionally, a rare few bore the hidden ability “Guts.”
Compared to the two common abilities, although scarce, “Guts” wasn’t particularly impactful in the game. Its effect was: “When the Pokémon is affected by a status that induces flinching, its speed increases.”
Lu Yun frowned slightly. Though he found the ability somewhat underwhelming, he could accept it. The real question was: how would this ability manifest in the real world?
Would it trigger literally whenever he felt fear and flinched? Or would there be some other transformation?
Hoping for a more detailed explanation from the system, Lu Yun tapped again on the “Ability” section.
As expected, nothing happened.
“Sigh.”
He let out a soft breath. Looks like he’d have to study this ability gradually over time.
Yet deep within, a subtle premonition stirred: the hidden ability “Guts” would not be so simple!
His gaze then swept over the skill list, which appeared rather basic...
“Wait!”
His moving eyes suddenly halted.
“Why can a Fighting-type Machop learn the Ghost-type move Confuse Ray?”
A twitch appeared at the corner of Lu Yun’s mouth.
If he remembered correctly, Fighting-type moves were ineffective against Ghost-type Pokémon. While there was no explicit advantage or disadvantage between the two types, they certainly weren’t harmonious.
Suddenly, memories of the surgical table flashed through his mind. Coupled with the cryptic words in the system’s evaluation panel, a strange feeling arose deep within Lu Yun’s heart.
As if to confirm his suspicions, he tentatively immersed his spiritual energy into his body, activating his internal energy.
Sure enough, Lu Yun detected something unusual.
Alongside the Fighting-type energy coursing within him, there was an additional dark, chilling aura. The two energies overlapped like oil and water—adjacent but never blending.
It was as if a broad highway had two distinct lanes: one for motor vehicles, the other for pedestrians. They were sharply separated yet inexplicably connected on some level.
Looking again at “Confuse Ray,” Lu Yun’s understanding deepened.
The other energy residing in his body must be Ghost-type.
But...
“Hey, hey!”
“Is it really okay to have this kind of thing inside me?”
Even his previous life’s Haxorus, which wielded Dragon-type energy foreign to its own typing, had achieved this only through years of accumulation, training, and the influence of dragon lineage in its blood.
Now, Lu Yun felt a mix of frustration and helplessness. His body seemed like a powder keg ready to explode at any moment.
Within just a few seconds, he even imagined a future when his fragile flesh might be torn apart by the conflicting forces within him.
“Whew.”
Taking two deep breaths, Lu Yun forced calm upon himself, pushing away those terrifying visions.
With things having developed to this point, he could only face them step by step and adapt as he went.
Finally, the item list was straightforward, simply displaying the items currently in Lu Yun’s possession.
After brief consideration, he decided to hold off on equipping the [Terrakion’s Shattering Shoulder Guards] and [Zygarde Core].
He was unsure whether these items might cause visible changes to his appearance. If equipping them led to noticeable transformations, in such a tense and cautious environment, he feared he might be dissected for research...
As for the [Individual Value Enhancer], Lu Yun’s eyes gleamed.
In his previous life’s experience, humans had no concept of “Pokémon individual values.” They simply referred to it broadly as “potential aptitude.”
In other words, even if he consumed the [Individual Value Enhancer], the chance of being discovered by others was slim.
