Chapter 77: The Legendary G-Spot
That glitched employee NPC, despite his vacant gaze, odd behavior, and refusal to interact with others, would, after finishing his "meal," properly place his tray at the return window, neaten his clothes, and then head straight for the exit of the cafeteria. The entire impression he gave was indistinguishable from that of a normal NPC. Had Gu Jingxing not caught him earlier in the cafeteria pretending to eat thin air, no player encountering such a person elsewhere would have suspected anything unusual.
That was, at least, until—
The employee reached the end of a corridor, stopped beside a door, and began banging his head repeatedly against the wall. His actions closely resembled players in the past who would madly dash into the invisible boundaries at the edge of the map.
Hu Jiayao remarked, “...Isn’t he going to hurt himself like that? Or do NPCs not take damage and are just sturdier?”
As he spoke, he walked over and saw at a glance the employee’s forehead, already bruised and swollen from the impacts.
“So he does get injured?” Hu Jiayao reached out and yanked the employee’s arm, trying to pull him back. “Hey, if something’s bothering you, talk to me, alright? Don’t just stand here hurting yourself.”
“Don’t bother. He won’t respond,” said Gu Jingxing, shaking his head. He summoned his system again: [Scan the area for any hidden equipment or interactable units.]
He’d scanned this employee before and found nothing, but now he decided to try a different approach—maybe, even though the system couldn’t recognize this NPC due to some bug, the internal code for quest-giving or item drops still worked?
As it turned out, Gu Jingxing was overthinking it. The system quickly replied: No hidden equipment or interactable units detected.
Direct interaction yielded nothing, the system couldn’t pick up anything either—was this really, as Hu Jiayao had first guessed, just a completely inconsequential background character?
Gu Jingxing began to suspect he was worrying over nothing.
Just as he was about to give up and haul Hu Jiayao off to continue exploring, their chat group finally chimed with a reply from the guild leader.
[Jiǔ: Excellent.]
[Jiǔ: Recruit him into the guild immediately.]
[Jiǔ: Sharing group file “Steady Hands Guild Membership Contract.”]
Gu Jingxing: ...
Hu Jiayao: ...
Was their guild leader so desperate to expand that even a bugged NPC was fair game?
[yao: Boss, that’s an NPC, and a glitched one at that. Can’t communicate, and the system can’t identify him.]
[Jiǔ: Communication isn’t necessary. Clearly explain our guild to him, then move the contract into a place his system can access, and ask if he’ll join.]
[yao: But—]
[Jingxing: Understood.]
[yao: ?]
Hu Jiayao was at a loss. He’d been gearing up to argue with the guild leader, maybe even explain the difference between NPCs and players, but Gu Jingxing agreed without hesitation.
“What do you mean ‘understood’? Look at the state he’s in! How are you even going to get him to sign?” Hu Jiayao placed one hand on his hip, gesturing at the employee as he complained to Gu Jingxing.
Gu Jingxing merely shook his head, ignored him, and walked over to stand close to the employee. Leaning against the wall, he maintained eye contact as best he could and said in a low voice:
“We are players from [Steady Hands] Guild. If you’re willing to join, we’ll help you leave this map. Do you agree?”
“I’ve opened the guild membership contract for signing. If you agree, sign it now, and the guild promises to help you escape.”
“If you don’t sign within five seconds, we’ll consider it a refusal.”
“Five—”
System: [Ding!]
System: [The Steady Hands Guild Membership Contract you shared has been successfully signed!]
Gu Jingxing had barely finished the first count; the contract was signed instantly, as if the employee feared missing the chance if he was any slower.
Retrieving the contract, Gu Jingxing checked the signatory panel at the bottom:
[Name: Zhang Tianyu]
[Level: lv3]
[Strength: 23/500]
[Agility: 200/500]
[Armor: 42/500]
[Charisma: 3/500]
Hu Jiayao stared at Gu Jingxing in disbelief. “He actually signed?”
Gu Jingxing shared the panel with him.
Hu Jiayao was stunned. “He—he’s not an NPC? He’s… a player?!”
Not only that, but he was at the same level as Hu Jiayao and had even higher stats in several areas.
“How did such a powerful player end up like this?” Now, knowing they were equals—both lv3 players—Hu Jiayao even felt a bit sorry for him.
Gu Jingxing simply shrugged and turned away. “Come on, let’s get back to work.”
Hu Jiayao remained rooted to the spot, still pointing at the wall-colliding player. “We’re just leaving him like that?”
Gu Jingxing didn’t pause. “We can’t help him right now, and we don’t need to. He won’t die.”
Hu Jiayao didn’t understand and hurried after him, asking a couple more questions. Gu Jingxing only gave him vague, noncommittal answers.
...
...
At the workstation outside the CEO’s office, Wen Nan’s lips curved higher as she received the system notification in her mind: another new recruit had joined [Steady Hands] Guild. Another one secured.
“Come down, I have something to ask you.”
Wen Nan reached out and patted her junior’s backside—a soft, springy feel, like a ripe peach bursting with juice. She wondered if it would really yield a drop if pinched.
Wen Nan looked at the girl before her.
She was fresh and youthful, with a round face and big almond-shaped eyes, all her features delicate and doll-like, exuding an innocent charm.
[Name: Zhang Beibei (Beibei)]
[Role: Dewy, inexperienced junior]
[Background: Beibei attended the same college as you during your undergraduate years, one year below you. Not long after you landed a job at Irene Group, she followed as an intern. Since then, she’s worked alongside you as your teammate.]
[In the company, she’s like a little tail, always following you around, calling you “senior” at every turn.]
[And as her senior and immediate supervisor, you’ve taken meticulous care of her. At work, you guide and correct her patiently; in life, you diligently show up to help, like a faithful handyman.]
[In Beibei’s eyes, you are her all-powerful hero. The more you help her out of tight spots, the deeper her admiration, affection, and love for you grows.]
[Romance Difficulty: ★★★★★☆]
The junior obediently hopped out of Wen Nan’s arms, tilting her little face up. “Senior, what do you want to ask?”
Wen Nan got straight to the point. “Tell me, where is the G-spot?”
At once, her junior blushed again and ducked her head shyly. “Oh…”
Wen Nan put on a stern face. “You said if I win the boss over, you’ll tell me. No backing out now.”
“Alright,” her junior said, raising her hand and beckoning Wen Nan to come closer. “Come here, I’ll whisper it to you.”
