Chapter 125: Not Going So Smoothly
In the morning, after breakfast, Lin Chuan took his son out. At the doorway, they bumped into Wang Yue; exchanging a smile, they stepped into the elevator together.
Downstairs, an Audi was parked not far off, with the driver, Xiao Wu, standing in front of the car, glancing around, seemingly distracted.
“Uncle Xiao Wu!” Lin Yiyang was in a cheerful mood today; as soon as he saw Xiao Wu, he shouted and ran over.
Xiao Wu was slightly taken aback but smiled warmly as the little boy approached.
Without any formalities, the group got into the car and drove off.
Since the kindergarten was quite close to the residential area, it only took a few minutes to arrive.
Lin Chuan opened the car door, ready to get out. At that moment, Yiyang spoke up, “Dad, you don’t need to come in. I can handle it myself.”
Lin Chuan frowned slightly. “Are you sure? Really don’t need Dad to accompany you?”
“Yeah, Sister Yue said you’re a public figure and it’s not appropriate to show up in public. Besides, I’m grown up now. I can manage...” Yiyang flashed an innocent, radiant smile.
Hearing this, Lin Chuan glanced at Wang Yue, who smiled softly and said, “Don’t worry, I’ll be here.”
Opening the door, Wang Yue took Lin Yiyang’s hand and stepped out. Watching their backs, Xiao Wu chuckled, “Kids these days are so clever and sly, talking like adults... Nothing like when we were young — all we cared about was eating and playing, silly all day.”
“That’s you. When I was young, I was just as sharp as Yiyang now,” Lin Chuan joked rare and lightheartedly.
Xiao Wu burst out laughing.
Through the car window, they saw Lin Yiyang standing at the kindergarten gate with a small backpack, not going in; Wang Yue stood quietly beside him.
No doubt, they were waiting for the little chubby boy. The incident from yesterday weighed heavily on Yiyang’s conscience because, in a moment of low spirits, he had pushed another child down.
Though Lin Chuan hadn’t blamed him, Yiyang couldn’t get past it himself.
At that moment, a sweet and adorable little girl approached, carrying a cloth bag printed with cartoon characters. Behind her was a woman under thirty, presumably her mother.
“Hello, Teacher Wang!” the girl greeted Wang Yue, then frowned and asked, “Lin Yiyang, why are you standing here? Why don’t you go inside?”
“I’m fine. You go in first,” Yiyang replied.
“Oh, then I’ll stand here with you for a while,” the girl said, turning to the woman beside her. “Mom, you should hurry to work. I’ll stay here with Lin Yiyang for a bit.”
The woman hesitated, about to speak, when Wang Yue stepped in. “You must be Qian Qian’s mother, right? Hello, I’m Wang Yue, a teacher at the kindergarten.”
“Hello, Teacher Wang,” Qian Qian’s mother quickly extended her hand.
“Leave Qian Qian to me. You don’t need to worry,” Wang Yue assured her.
After a brief pause, Qian Qian’s mother nodded. “Alright, thank you, Teacher Wang... Qian Qian, Mommy’s going to work now. Be good and don’t cause trouble for the teachers. Mommy will pick you up after work.”
She left hurriedly, seemingly worried about being late. But Qian Qian paid no mind; she stood beside Lin Yiyang, looking around curiously, still unsure who exactly he was waiting for.
Inside the Audi, Lin Chuan sat in the back, watching the scene at the kindergarten entrance, not intending to leave just yet.
He couldn’t leave—not until he saw his son safely inside the kindergarten. Only then could he truly feel at ease.
Xiao Wu smiled and said, “Brother Chuan, who’s that little girl next to Yiyang? Could she be his little girlfriend? Hmm, Yiyang has good taste; the girl’s cute. Maybe she’ll grow up to be a beauty.”
Lin Chuan smiled. Xiao Wu sure had a vivid imagination, but Lin Chuan said nothing, watching outside while listening to Xiao Wu chatter on.
As time passed, many children arrived with their parents, heading toward the kindergarten.
Suddenly, Lin Chuan spotted a chubby boy in the crowd, about five or six years old, slightly taller than Yiyang, walking with a wobble.
Beside him was an elderly woman in her sixties—likely the boy’s grandmother. Judging by her stern face full of coarse features, she didn’t seem very kind-tempered.
Lin Chuan frowned but remained seated, quietly observing.
The chubby boy and his grandmother reached the kindergarten gate. Then, Lin Yiyang stepped forward, his expression earnest, apparently apologizing.
Next to him, the little girl spoke up, looking somewhat upset.
Suddenly, the chubby boy reached out and pushed the girl aside, then arrogantly strode toward the school building.
The matter didn’t end there. The stern-faced grandmother stood at the gate, muttering something incomprehensible. Wang Yue remained silent, and Lin Yiyang lowered his head, looking very wronged.
Only the little girl stood with her hands on her hips, clearly unwilling to accept the situation.
Lin Chuan’s heart stirred. He realized things weren’t as smooth as they seemed and reached to open the car door, preparing to go over himself.
“Brother Chuan, what are you going to do?” Xiao Wu suddenly asked.
“Nothing. I’m just going to take a look,” Lin Chuan replied expressionlessly, though inwardly he was somewhat angered.
“Don’t move. Let me handle it,” Xiao Wu said, opening his door and stepping out first.
But before he could go far, the elderly woman pointed at Lin Yiyang and then turned to leave.
Soon after, Wang Yue led the children, including Qian Qian, toward the school building.
Watching his son’s retreating figure, a wave of frustration surged through Lin Chuan’s chest. Was his son wronged? Or bullied? Either way, it was not good.
At that moment, Lin Yiyang slowly turned his head and cast an indescribable glance toward the Audi and his father’s direction...
“Brother Chuan, it’s nothing serious. It should be resolved now. Shall we go?” Xiao Wu returned to the car, smiling.
Only after his son and Wang Yue entered the school building did Lin Chuan nod softly in acknowledgment.
The car started and swiftly drove along the road ahead.
“Brother Chuan, where to first?” Xiao Wu asked during the ride.
Lin Chuan lowered his head, thinking briefly. “Let’s go back to the company. I want to see if Xia Tian and Chu Fei are still rehearsing.”
“Got it!” Xiao Wu agreed and pressed the accelerator, quickly picking up speed.
Lin Chuan gazed out the window as scenes blurred past, his heart restless and troubled. Especially that last look his son had given him—it stirred waves of pain and irritation deep within.
