Chapter 109: Watching a Movie
The middle-aged man was bewildered. What had come over the young lady? Why was she tailing someone for no apparent reason? However, as a seasoned driver with plenty of experience, he knew better than to ask prying questions that would only invite annoyance.
Once in the car, the sedan started up quickly and slipped quietly behind the taxi, following in its wake.
Galaxy Cinema was not particularly large, but it was bustling with moviegoers. As Lin Chuan stepped out of the taxi, he was met with a sea of people at the entrance—mostly young couples, with the occasional young parent accompanied by children.
He scanned the crowd but could not spot Lin Yiyang or Wang Yue. He pulled out his phone and dialed.
"Daddy, are you here?" As soon as the call connected, he expected to hear Wang Yue, but instead, a little boy's voice chirped through.
Lin Chuan smiled. "Yangyang, where are you guys? I'm at the cinema entrance."
No sooner had he finished speaking than a woman's voice came through—it was Wang Yue. "We're inside. Just come on in."
Hanging up, Lin Chuan wove through the crowd and headed straight for the cinema doors. Dressed in plain clothes and wearing a cap and sunglasses, he managed to enter without drawing any attention.
Inside the lobby, it was just as crowded as the outside; the waiting areas on both sides were packed. Directly ahead were posters and schedules for upcoming films. Just as Lin Chuan was frowning, searching the crowd for the familiar duo, a childish voice called out from nearby.
"Daddy, we're over here!"
Turning toward the sound, he saw Lin Yiyang holding a large bucket of popcorn, waving his arms with excitement. Lin Chuan smiled and walked toward his son.
The cinema was busy, and a long line had formed at the ticket counter. Wang Yue was in the queue; seeing Lin Chuan approach, she said with a smile, "We couldn't book tickets online, so we had to buy them here. Yangyang wanted to see that one."
Following the direction of her finger, Lin Chuan looked ahead and saw a poster for an animated film featuring a burly bear and a smaller cub, presumably its baby.
When Lin Chuan read the title, he was left speechless.
*The Love Life of Papa Bear*? Was even the bear world getting into romance these days? Lin Chuan gave a helpless smile; since his son liked it, he certainly had no objections.
After about ten minutes, it was finally Wang Yue’s turn. As she reached the counter, the staff member looked up and asked, "How many tickets?"
"Three," Wang Yue answered without hesitation.
"A family of three? Why not get the family seating package? It’s only five dollars more than regular tickets, and it lets the three of you sit together to enjoy the movie with the child..." the clerk began, offering their standard pitch.
However, when Wang Yue heard the words "family seating," her face turned bright red for reasons unknown. She instinctively glanced at Lin Chuan and Lin Yiyang waiting to the side, then gave a slight nod.
The clerk was delighted. "This is the family section; please select your seats on the screen... Parents are so busy these days, it’s not easy to find the time to take a child to a cartoon. Since you're here, you should enjoy the experience. Go ahead, choose your seats."
And so, with a blushing face, Wang Yue muddled through the process and selected three family seats. The location was perfect—right in the middle, neither too far forward nor too far back.
After paying, Wang Yue walked away with the three tickets, and Lin Yiyang hurried over.
"Sister Xiaoyue, did you get the tickets?"
"Yes, I did. It’s at two o'clock, in less than half an hour..." As she spoke, she snuck a glance at Lin Chuan.
She saw him looking around nonchalantly, seemingly not paying attention. The small spark of excitement she had felt moments ago dimmed, replaced by a trace of disappointment. Did he not care about watching a movie with her? Or... did he simply want her to keep Yangyang company for the cartoon?
Wang Yue’s thoughts were in a muddle. She gripped the three tickets tightly, her mind wandering.
If Lin Chuan knew what Wang Yue was thinking, he would have cried out in protest. He wasn't being nonchalant; he was nervous as could be. Besides, having finally managed to ask her out, he couldn't just let it end with a casual cartoon, could he? He decided he needed to book a second film to make the outing worthwhile. But what kind of movie? A romance? Too dull—with Lin Chuan’s personality, romance films were nothing more than sleep aids.
Action movies, on the other hand, might not be to Wang Yue’s taste. It was a real dilemma.
Just then, Lin Yiyang walked over and said with a grin, "Daddy, Sister Xiaoyue got the tickets."
"Got them?" Lin Chuan snapped out of his thoughts, his eyes meeting Wang Yue’s. She nodded with a smile.
"It starts at two, less than half an hour left," Wang Yue said.
"Less than half an hour? Wait for me, I’ll be right back," Lin Chuan said, turning and rushing off.
Wang Yue stood there, stunned, watching his retreating back. Lin Yiyang, equally confused, furrowed his brows while munching on popcorn.
Time ticked by. Twenty minutes passed, and with only a few minutes left until showtime, many parents were already heading into the theater.
"Sister Xiaoyue, why isn't Daddy back yet?" Lin Yiyang asked anxiously.
"He should be here soon. Let's wait one more minute, and if he isn't back, we'll call him," Wang Yue said, anxiously scanning the crowd.
Just as she spoke, Lin Chuan raced back like a gust of wind, holding three more tickets. "I'm here! Have they started letting people in? Let's go."
Lin Yiyang, who had been looking unhappy, beamed the moment he saw his father and skipped over, clutching his popcorn bucket.
"Where did you go just now?" Wang Yue asked, lowering her voice as they walked.
"Oh, nothing much, just went to buy some more tickets. Have you seen *Super Cop vs. Aliens*?" Lin Chuan asked, waving the tickets in his hand.
"Um... no. Is it sci-fi?" Wang Yue guessed, shaking her head.
"That's right. It should be a blast. After we finish the cartoon with Yangyang, we'll watch this one. I think you'll like it, right?" Lin Chuan said with a smile.
If Yuan Ye or anyone else knew about this, they would surely be spitting blood. Who asks a girl out to a movie and picks a sci-fi flick called *Super Cop vs. Aliens*? It had to be said, Lin Chuan’s romantic intelligence left much to be desired.
