Chapter 107: Something to Say
Morning, at Tiandi Cultural Company.
Gao Mingyuan sat in his office, brimming with confidence. Ever since Lin Chuan joined his company, his luck had taken a sudden turn for the better. Various commercial performances, endorsements, and even several record companies had come knocking on their door.
All of these meant money, and no matter who they partnered with, it brought in considerable income.
Especially recently, Tiandi Cultural had successively signed several promising artists—each with impressive vocal skills, good looks, and strong backgrounds.
Sitting opposite him now was a woman with an ordinary appearance but heavy makeup. Though young, she was dressed in international designer clothes and jewelry; even those unfamiliar with fashion could tell these were no cheap trinkets.
“Mr. Gao, what do you think of my proposal?” The woman smiled coolly, her tone proud.
Gao Mingyuan raised an eyebrow, his face showing a hint of hesitation. “Miss Zhang, this… having Xiao Chuan write the song, I can’t decide on my own. I have to wait for Xiao Chuan to come back and discuss it with him.”
“Discuss? Mr. Gao, did I hear that right? You’re the boss, and you need to discuss decisions with your subordinate? You must understand, my father’s company is hosting the year-end gratitude banquet, but they’re not the only ones. Several other large companies in Kyoto are co-hosting, and major TV stations and well-known media outlets will be present. For our company, this is far more than just a lucrative gig…”
As soon as the woman finished speaking, Gao Mingyuan’s expression visibly changed, a flicker of excitement crossing his features.
Others might not know, but Gao Mingyuan had been mingling in Kyoto for years and was well aware of the annual gratitude banquet. It was a grand event jointly organized by several major companies in Kyoto.
The scale was vast, comparable to a large gala. More importantly, on the day of the banquet, many renowned media and TV reporters from all over would attend.
In addition, top-tier, popular artists and singers would be present. At that moment, just associating the company with one of the stars at the banquet would be immensely beneficial for both the company and the individual. Even a rumor linking them to a big-name star would be advantageous.
The more Gao Mingyuan thought about it, the more excited he became, his smile growing wider. A company as small as Tiandi Cultural had no qualifications to join such a prestigious event, but with this woman present, everything changed.
The key point was that once Tiandi Cultural got involved in this banquet, they could severely curb the arrogant airs of Jiang Xia, an old rival whom Gao Mingyuan despised deeply.
“Mr. Gao, have you made up your mind? Just say the word, and I’ll call my dad immediately.” Saying this, the woman pulled her phone from her designer bag.
Gao Mingyuan, lost in thought, snapped back to reality at her words. “Wait, let’s discuss this after Xiao Chuan returns… Although I’m his boss, I…”
His sentence trailed off, his face showing clear difficulty. Despite how much he valued the year-end banquet, he refused to be swayed by temptation or make decisions on Lin Chuan’s behalf.
The woman’s expression darkened, and she scoffed coldly. “Mr. Gao, if you need to discuss, then discuss. But I’m only giving you three days. I’ll come to the company to see you then. Don’t disappoint me.”
Gao Mingyuan’s face hardened. After all, he was the boss. No matter how influential this woman’s background was, she was still an artist under Tiandi Cultural’s banner, and yet she dared to speak to him like this?
He suppressed a grunt inwardly, thinking: With my temper back in younger days, I would have lost it long ago, no matter your background—I would have thrown you out on your ear. But now… well, I just can’t anymore.
No matter what he thought inside, the woman clearly disregarded him. With a cold snort, she grabbed her bag and intended to leave.
At that moment, there was a knock on the door. When it opened, a man appeared.
The woman and the man came face to face, both momentarily stunned.
“You’re… Lin Chuan, right?” The woman was the first to react, a faint smile finally appearing on her face.
“Hello!” The man smiled politely and extended his hand.
But the woman had no intention of shaking it; instead, she sneered and turned away. “Mr. Gao, he’s here. What happens next is up to you.”
“What do you mean?” Lin Chuan was puzzled. He glanced inside and saw Gao Mingyuan already standing up, walking around the desk toward the door.
At that moment, the woman had already slipped out sideways.
“Xiao Chuan, come in and have a talk,” Gao Mingyuan said warmly at the doorway.
Lin Chuan nodded and entered the office, casually closing the door behind him. “Mr. Gao, who was that just now?”
“Oh, she’s a new artist signed with our company, named Zhang Xiaoqiao. You’ll have to take good care of her from now on,” Gao Mingyuan said calmly with a smile.
“Mr. Gao, you’re too polite. I’m new to Kyoto and unfamiliar with everything. I’ll need your guidance,” Lin Chuan replied.
“Enough with the pleasantries between us. So, how did things go during your trip back to Quancheng? It’s a shame we can’t get Quancheng Satellite TV here in Kyoto; otherwise, I could watch our hometown’s channel,” Gao Mingyuan said with concern.
“Very smoothly. ‘If You Are the One’ has already premiered, and the first episode’s reception was quite good…” Lin Chuan said without hesitation, giving an overview of the TV station’s situation.
Gao Mingyuan’s face lit up with surprise and delight. “A 5% viewership rating? That’s a miracle. Even Kyoto’s well-known TV stations rarely achieve such numbers. Xiao Chuan, you really impress me. Not only are you a great singer, but you’ve also managed to make a nearly bankrupt TV station flourish.”
Lin Chuan smiled modestly, feeling a slight sense of satisfaction and accomplishment at Gao Mingyuan’s praise.
They chatted further about the TV station and Tiandi Cultural’s current status. Just as the driver, Xiao Wu, had said, the company had indeed signed several new artists.
However, Gao Mingyuan neither praised nor criticized these artists.
“Xiao Chuan, have you written any new songs lately?” Gao Mingyuan suddenly asked.
Lin Chuan didn’t pay much attention and smiled faintly. “I’ve been busy recently, with no time to write. Now that I’m back in Kyoto, I might write a couple of new songs when I have time.”
“Hmm, you’re talented. Writing songs is your strength. Don’t let it go to waste…” Gao Mingyuan said hesitantly.
At first, Lin Chuan didn’t notice anything unusual, but after a moment, sensing Gao Mingyuan’s troubled expression, he became more certain of his suspicion.
“Mr. Gao, is there something you want to say?” Lin Chuan asked calmly.
