Qi Xiaotian’s words were nothing short of a confession.

Seeing that Qi Xiaotian still harbored feelings for Jiang Meijia, the crowd immediately began to tease him.

“Oh!”

“Qi is so devoted, he still likes Jiang Meijia, doesn’t he?”

“If I were Jiang Meijia, I’d definitely choose Qi. Just imagine sitting in the passenger seat of his car—what a scene that would be!”

“That King of Cars from Nine Cities is the most expensive sports car in Bianjing, worth over a hundred million! Imagine the prestige of driving in that.”

The crowd chattered animatedly among themselves.

As for Lu Fei, Xu Yunyao and her friends glanced at him with mocking smiles.

“This is going to be good. Qi’s confessing to Meijia again. That kid probably doesn’t even dare utter a word.”

“They’re not even married. For a stunning beauty like Meijia, everyone has the right to pursue her. If he can’t keep her, it’s his own fault for lacking ability.”

“Just look at him, I almost feel sorry for the guy, haha.”

Amid the crowd’s flattery, Qi Xiaotian looked extremely pleased, though he put on a gentlemanly façade.

“Beauty and a fine car—the passenger seat of the King of Cars is only fit for a woman as lovely as Meijia.”

As soon as he finished, the bootlicking resumed around him.

“Well said! Qi, Meijia, and the car—what a perfect combination!”

“Exactly, exactly.”

Just then, a discordant voice broke out, “I don’t need you to decide where my wife sits.”

Swish! Swish!

All eyes instantly turned to Lu Fei.

It was, of course, Lu Fei who had spoken.

“Lu Fei! What nonsense are you spouting? Hurry up and apologize to Qi!” Xu Yunyao was the first to jump up and scold him.

Beside her, a man with an earring also rebuked Lu Fei harshly, “When Qi speaks, you listen. It’s not your place to comment. Apologize to Qi!”

This man, Li Neng, was an active member of Jiang Meijia’s little circle. His family ran a small company, and he was hoping to use connections with people like Jiang Meijia to climb into high society.

Learning that Jiang Meijia had a boyfriend like Lu Fei, he’d kept silent until now, finally seizing the chance to put Lu Fei down.

Jiang Meijia, however, showed no reaction.

Qi Xiaotian was just a playboy—she’d never liked him; otherwise, she would have agreed to his pursuit long ago.

Lu Fei talking back actually pleased her; at least he was showing some backbone.

Qi Xiaotian glanced at Lu Fei, his eyes narrowing with a flash of hostility.

But then the corners of his mouth curled up into a forced smile. “A fair maiden is sought by many. At most, Meijia is your girlfriend. Isn’t it a little premature to call her your wife?”

“Qi, how cultured! Well said, and so true!”

“She’s only a girlfriend, not a wife. Where does he get the nerve to think he can have Meijia all to himself?”

People chimed in with praise.

Lu Fei chuckled coldly, “You know she’s my girlfriend, yet you still invite her. Is it because you can’t find a girlfriend yourself?”

Qi Xiaotian’s lips twitched at this—he hadn’t expected a bumpkin to speak to him like that.

For a moment, he was lost for words.

Before he could react, Lu Fei pressed on, “Besides, you don’t even own the King of Cars. If you want to invite my wife to sit in the passenger seat, at least bring the car around first. Pretending to have what you don’t own—isn’t that embarrassing?”

Boom!

The faces in the crowd changed dramatically.

Had Lu Fei swallowed gunpowder tonight?

Even if Qi Xiaotian was making moves on his girlfriend, surely that wasn’t an excuse for such an outburst.

Qi had only invited Jiang Meijia to ride in his new car, after all.

Everyone thought: This guy is overreacting, he’s really crossed Qi, and that’s not going to end well for him.

Qi Xiaotian, however, only laughed. “Oh? The King of Cars isn’t mine? Is it yours, then?”

“That’s right. It’s mine,” Lu Fei replied calmly.

Boo!

A chorus of jeers rose around them. Lu Fei had initially gained the upper hand, but now the situation had reversed.

He’d lost all credibility by claiming the King of Cars as his own.

Did he even understand what that meant?

That was the top sports car in Bianjing, owned only by the city’s most powerful and wealthy.

For a country bumpkin to claim it as his own was utterly ridiculous.

Xu Yunyao doubled over laughing, “Hahaha! The King of Cars is yours? Try buying an electric scooter first.”

Li Neng sidled up to Qi Xiaotian, “Qi, don’t bother responding to this bumpkin. He doesn’t even own a car and dares brag about the King of Cars.”

Qi Xiaotian smiled, “It’s nothing. A car is just a means of transportation. I can understand why he’d feel the need to say that.”

“Qi is so gracious!”

“Well said. The more someone lacks, the more they flaunt what they don’t have.”

Jiang Meijia frowned.

Lu Fei’s claim to the King of Cars was mortifying.

“Let’s drop the subject and drink!” Jiang Meijia deliberately ended the discussion, helping Lu Fei out—otherwise, the crowd would have kept mocking him for his slip.

“If Meijia says so, then let’s drop it. Drinks on me tonight—everything’s on my tab!” Qi Xiaotian declared generously, shooting Lu Fei a look of disdain.

You claim the King of Cars is yours? Why don’t you pick up the bill, if you’re so impressive?

But in the next moment, his expression turned icy cold.

Jiang Meijia took Lu Fei’s hand and led him to a quieter corner to talk in private.

He’d just confessed his feelings in public, and Jiang Meijia hadn’t responded at all. Now, she was being intimate with another man right before his eyes—was this not a slap in the face?

Everyone saw where Jiang Meijia stood, but out of respect for Qi Xiaotian, no one said it aloud.

Qi Xiaotian was seething with anger, his heart full of resentment.

Just wait, Jiang Meijia, he thought darkly. One day, I’ll make you submit to me.

Meanwhile, Jiang Meijia leaned close to Lu Fei’s ear, “Just stick with me and stop talking nonsense. Don’t make a fool of yourself.”

“I’m not spouting nonsense. That guy dares make a move on you—he’s asking for trouble,” Lu Fei retorted, casting a cold glance at Qi Xiaotian.

You want my woman? Do you deserve her?

For a moment, Jiang Meijia was dazed. Deep down, she looked down on Lu Fei and only saw him as a tool.

Yet, all of a sudden, she felt a flutter in her heart for him.

No matter how ridiculous his actions seemed, he was simply defending his own dignity.

“Stop arguing with me! Just listen to what I say—I won’t let anything happen to you, understand?” Jiang Meijia scolded him, but in her heart she resolved to protect Lu Fei from harm, since she was the one who’d dragged him into this mess.

Loud, frenzied music blared all around, making it hard to hear.

She and Lu Fei had to lean in close, their lips almost at each other’s ears, making for a very intimate scene.

This, of course, only made Qi Xiaotian all the more displeased.
