Chapter 50: Unprofessional and Spineless
Watching Shen He in silence, Zhao Liu craned his neck to glance down at the living room below.
Seeing Wang Wu slumped on the sofa in a deep sleep, he frowned, placing his hand behind his waist.
He spoke coldly, “What did you do to Wang Wu?”
Shen He turned around and replied, “Nothing. I suppose he was just too tired, so he fell asleep as soon as he lay down.”
Zhao Liu sneered, “Do you think you can fool a ghost?”
Suddenly, he drew a dagger from behind his back, holding it before himself.
His body bent slightly, upper torso swaying, looking every bit the part of a professional, cold-blooded killer.
He grinned menacingly, “Kid, my brother and I originally planned to bring Shen San into the fold and make a big score with you all. Never expected you'd turn out to be an undercover agent.”
They had barely entered the private room before Shen He found an excuse to step out.
Then, a group of plainclothes officers burst in.
Later, Shen He’s American-style maneuver had blocked their car, with a captain from the criminal police sitting in the passenger seat.
All signs pointed to one thing.
This so-called ‘Five-Star Model Citizen’ was the police’s mole among them.
Now, he’d even found their safe house in the county.
The police were surely on their way, perhaps already surrounding the villa.
To escape, they would need to take a hostage.
Zhao Liu said, “Coming in alone will be your biggest regret in this life—”
He hadn’t finished his sentence.
Shen He glanced at him, eyes flickering.
In the next instant, cold light flashed in the room; the alloy longsword on Shen He’s back was suddenly in hand.
A gleam of steel, and the blade was pressed against Zhao Liu’s throat.
Zhao Liu froze, the rest of his words caught in his throat.
The dagger in his hand clattered to the floor.
Shen He frowned at him and said, “You’re really unprofessional. Don’t you know villains die from talking too much? And you have no backbone at all—what’s your story?”
At these words, Zhao Liu dropped to his knees with a thud.
Trembling, he pleaded, “I was wrong! Don’t kill me!”
His hands pressed on his thighs in a perfect Japanese-style kneel.
Shen He kicked the fallen dagger away, then raised his hand and slapped Zhao Liu hard.
Smack!
A crisp sound echoed.
Zhao Liu’s eyes rolled white and he slipped into a sweet dream.
Shen He grabbed Zhao Liu by the collar and headed downstairs, then took out the credentials he’d gotten from Lin San and made a call.
He reported the exact location, asking the other party to bring over his Tank 700.
Then he sat on the sofa, gazing at the two sleeping men.
After pondering for a moment, he fetched a bottle of water from the refrigerator, unscrewed the cap, took a sip, and then sprayed some onto Wang Wu, who had fainted first.
Wang Wu slowly awoke, groggily seeing a figure sitting before him.
Just as he tried to get up, a foot pressed down on his back, pinning him firmly in place.
It felt as if a mountain had landed on him.
Shen He said, “Alright, talk. Why were you looking for Shen San?”
Wang Wu struggled and replied, “Why should I tell you?”
In the next moment, the unconscious Zhao Liu was thrown before him, and a longsword pierced through his chest, impaling the clothes and sticking into the floor.
From Wang Wu’s perspective, it looked as if Zhao Liu had been run through with a sword.
Shocked, Wang Wu exclaimed, “You’re not a cop?”
Immediately, he felt an immense force on his back, crushing him so hard he thought his organs might burst.
Such methods were far beyond those unevolved police officers.
Damn it! What had they gotten themselves into?
“Speak. If you don’t, I’ll stomp you to death.”
“I’ll tell you, I’ll tell you…”
Wang Wu struggled, “We were looking for Shen San because he stole the corpse of a dog from a police car.”
Shen He: “…”
He slapped Wang Wu again, this time controlling the force so he didn’t knock him out.
He said, “What nonsense are you spouting? A dog’s corpse made the police go after you with such force?”
Wang Wu looked aggrieved. “Have you ever seen a mongrel as big as a calf?”
“That dog killed a man, but the matter was covered up, so not many people know. I heard the dog became a demon, and my boss wanted to buy it.”
“So we spent three hundred thousand to buy the dog, but when we bought it, we told the higher-ups it was missing two legs—we kept them for ourselves.”
“After eating the dog’s legs, we found it gave us strength, though not much.”
“Later, we heard there was another dog, part of the same group, hiding in a village near yours. So we wanted to gather more manpower, spread the net, and search. But before we could start, Shen San and the others were all caught.”
Hearing this, Shen He blinked.
Did eating mutated beasts really give strength?
If so, he’d lost out big on his previous deals.
But he remembered that the mutated beasts he’d slaughtered had all eaten humans.
If he had to cook and eat them himself, he might not even have the stomach for it.
And the dog hiding near his village—could it be the mysterious mutated beast mentioned in Daily Task Two?
If so, it would be an extraordinary stroke of luck.
He looked at Wang Wu and asked, “Where exactly is this dog you mentioned?”
Wang Wu shook his head, “I don’t know! Only that it’s hiding near your village, surrounded by cornfields—who knows where it’s hiding?”
At that, Shen He slapped him again. “You’re truly useless!”
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Judging by the time, Lin San and his team had probably arrived.
Shen He glanced at Wang Wu and slapped him again, this time with a bit more force.
Wang Wu immediately fell asleep.
Only then did Shen He sheathe his alloy longsword, and went to open the door.
As soon as the door opened, Lin San walked in, peering into the living room and seeing two men lying on the ground. He hurriedly asked, “Are you alright?”
Shen He waved his hand, “What could happen?”
Lin San led his people into the living room. After comparing the two on the floor, he confirmed they were the ones who escaped from the private room.
They were promptly handcuffed.
One of the officers, seeing the red marks on the duo’s faces, couldn’t help but wince in sympathy.
Shen He asked, “Captain Lin, the villagers only met Shen San for the first time. There shouldn’t be any problem, right?”
Lin San nodded, “Not much of an issue. The bureau has already conducted a blitz interrogation.”
“Besides, nowadays investigations are evidence-based. We’ve already checked—no innocent person will be wronged. Later, you’ll come with us for a brief statement, and you’ll be able to get them released.”
“And the reward we promised—the bureau has expedited it. Once you provide your bank account number, a hundred thousand will be transferred to your account.”
Shen He nodded. “That’s wonderful.”
A trip out, and he earned a hundred thousand—when did money ever become so easy to make?
