Chapter Ninety-Seven: Girlfriend

“Buggy, this is your doing again,” Fang Yuan said through gritted teeth, lowering his voice. Just now, his mind had been controlled by Buggy. Although Fang Yuan could feel everything and knew exactly what he had done, his mouth had been beyond his control, and he had actually said those things.

“Master, I only did it because you were all being too slow. It would have been better to give you a little push. If this thing works out because of me, you have to give me credit for it,” Buggy said with a smile. “Still, it looks like Miss Pei Xi really does like you this time. If those words had come from anyone else, I’m afraid they’d already be turned into meat paste.”

“So you weren’t even sure just now, and came here to confirm it?” Fang Yuan said, then turned and ran after the direction Pei Xi had fled.

Though he had no real experience with romance, from Pei Xi’s reaction alone, Buggy’s guess was more or less right. Fang Yuan was not the sort to dither and hesitate. Since they had already broken through that layer between them, a surge of delight welled up in his heart, and he immediately chased after her.

At the stairwell at the end of the corridor, Fang Yuan saw Pei Xi sitting on the steps.

Though Pei Xi was already an adult, because of Elder Pei, the men she had contact with and truly knew were few indeed. The verbal provocation Fang Yuan had just given her had made her heart nearly leap out of her chest.

Pei Xi herself did not know what had come over her. Why had hearing Fang Yuan ask her that made her heartbeat suddenly race for no reason? Pei Xi felt that if she did not run out, she might faint from her heart pounding too fast.

She was too agitated to notice that someone had already come up behind her. With his arms folded, Fang Yuan looked at her and said,

“Last time, didn’t you say you wanted me to be your boyfriend? Back then I didn’t agree. Later I came to find you and said I had accepted your request. Now I can tell you very responsibly that everything I said then was sincere. So now, it’s my turn to ask you.”

Hearing Fang Yuan’s voice all of a sudden, Pei Xi’s whole body trembled. Fang Yuan saw it and could not help thinking it looked rather amusing.

“What? Ask me what?” Pei Xi turned around. She still did not quite understand what Fang Yuan had just said.

“I mean, will you be my girlfriend?” Fang Yuan said with complete seriousness.

At that moment, Fang Yuan realized that he truly liked Pei Xi. It was as if the feeling had always been buried deep within him, and now, at some unknown moment, it surged up from the depths of his heart like a spring bursting forth, spreading through every limb and bone until he could no longer think.

Pei Xi had never expected Fang Yuan, who always seemed so indifferent to everything, so unconcerned and detached, to say such words to her.

The courage she had once had when asking Fang Yuan to be her boyfriend was utterly crushed by Fang Yuan’s overpowering demeanor.

“You... you mean you like me?” Pei Xi asked uncertainly. Fang Yuan had always been impossible to read.

“Yes, I like you. So what about you? Do you like me?” Fang Yuan asked in a forceful tone, his gaze pinning Pei Xi in place and leaving her no room to flee.

“I... I... I don’t really know what that feeling is. Anyway, I just don’t want to see you in danger. I worry that you’ll get hurt. Tell me, is that what liking someone feels like?” Pei Xi lifted her head and looked at Fang Yuan with yearning in her eyes. She herself did not know whether what she felt was truly what it meant to like someone.

“Of course. Since you like me so much, from now on you’re my girlfriend. As for that father of yours... well.” Seeing Pei Xi’s shy, bashful expression, Fang Yuan could not help but pull her into his arms. This feeling was truly like riding a roller coaster.

The two of them had never had any romantic experience at all, and even their confession was so earth-shattering that it left both of them half charred outside and tender inside.

Yet Pei Xi quite liked the feeling of being held by Fang Yuan. It was like the long-lost sensation of two people who were close to each other, having been tempered by time, finally finding their way back together.

“You... you two are?” No one knew why Ke Bei was so irritating, always showing up no matter where they were.

Just as Fang Yuan was lost in the blissful feeling of holding Pei Xi, Ke Bei’s voice came from behind him.
