Chapter Forty-Seven: The Dragon Gate Escort Agency
What Fang Yuan said, of course, didn’t include the mustached man and the fat man. He still had to teach those two a lesson later.
“This is my business card. If you ever need anything, Brother Fang, just give me a call. I promise I’ll be there at any time,” the man with the slicked-back hair said, showing a practiced composure in both words and actions.
When Fang Yuan took the card, he couldn’t help but marvel—nowadays even street thugs have business cards? Aren’t they afraid the police might see them?
In bold print, the card read: Longmen Security Couriers.
Why did that name sound so familiar?
Glancing at the four characters, Fang Yuan felt a sense of déjà vu. Then it dawned on him—wasn’t this the impressive company that had delivered two packages to him just a few days ago? So this slick-haired man was actually a small leader in that company.
“Brother Fang, have you heard of our Longmen Security Couriers before?” the slick-haired man asked, noticing Fang Yuan’s look of confusion.
“I have. You delivered two packages to me just the other day. Do you guys… usually deliver packages yourselves?” Fang Yuan’s instincts told him that Longmen Security Couriers were not as straightforward as Manager Xue had suggested.
There had to be more to it.
“We handle any job that involves risk, that’s why we chose a memorable name. If you’re interested, we can talk more about it over the phone,” the man said, clearly hiding something.
At first, Fang Yuan had really thought the man was just a regular street thug—he’d fight him and that would be that. But he hadn’t expected to run into someone from Longmen Security Couriers here, and a leader at that.
This fight had been well worth it.
To have received two deliveries from Longmen Security Couriers, this Fang Yuan had to be someone special. Not just anyone could afford their services. Just as Manager Xue had thought, now the slick-haired man was also filled with curiosity about Fang Yuan.
The mustached man watched as his backup ended up siding with Fang Yuan, feeling even more upset.
“Mustache, from now on, Brother Fang is my elder. If you disrespect him again, you’ll be crossing me. And you know better than anyone what happens when you cross me,” the slick-haired man warned.
So the man’s nickname really was Mustache. Makes sense—who else would keep a traitor’s mustache like that?
After the slick-haired man left, Fang Yuan turned and smiled at Mustache and the fat man.
That smile alone made both of them shudder.
With the doors closed, he gave them a beating until they couldn’t even speak. Only when Mustache was left sprawled out, barely able to breathe, did Fang Yuan stop. The fat man wasn’t as badly hurt, but with his weight, it would take him a while to get back up.
Returning to the restaurant at mealtime, Da Zhuang hurried over, visibly relieved to see Fang Yuan unharmed. He had been terrified when all those men had shown up at the door. He’d wanted to call and tell Fang Yuan to hide, but Mustache had made him phone Fang Yuan in front of everyone, even threatening to smash up the shop if Fang Yuan didn’t come.
“How was business yesterday?” Fang Yuan asked. He’d spent most of the previous day sleeping and had no idea how the business had gone.
“You wouldn’t believe it—business was booming yesterday! Ask Aunt Zhang if you don’t believe me. You can’t imagine how exhausted the two of us were, we were practically flying around the place,” Da Zhuang replied, clearly delighted.
His little restaurant hadn’t been this busy since it opened. If business was always like this, he’d be able to save enough to get married. Nowadays, for someone his age, finding a wife meant putting down at least a hundred thousand in betrothal gifts.
Over the years, all the money Da Zhuang earned went to treating his mother’s illness. Now that she’d passed away, he was relieved of that burden, but his age had caught up with him. Add to that his appearance and out-of-shape figure, and no girl with decent eyesight would look at him twice.
Seeing that nothing else was likely to happen today, Fang Yuan got a quick update on yesterday’s events and then left.
“Master, since we have nothing to do now, why don’t you take me somewhere fun?” On the way back, Chong Chong was reluctant to go home.
“Where to? Besides, who says I have nothing to do? I have plenty of things waiting for me,” Fang Yuan replied.
He wasn’t actually as busy as he claimed; he just didn’t want to give in to Chong Chong’s request.
“Oh, by the way, your Sister Pei Xi left for school yesterday. You probably won’t see her again,” Fang Yuan added, having forgotten to mention it earlier because of Da Zhuang’s call.
“What? Sister Pei Xi is gone? When will she come back?” Chong Chong cried out.
“That… I don’t know,” Fang Yuan replied.
Hearing the disappointment in Chong Chong’s voice, Fang Yuan realized that since their arrival, they hadn’t really had the chance to enjoy the local scenery. No time like the present, he thought.
When Fang Yuan suggested going out, Chong Chong instantly forgot all about Sister Pei Xi’s departure and was overjoyed.
The best thing about coastal cities is their cleanliness and sparse crowds. However, with the peak tourist season underway, the place was getting lively.
As noon approached, the weather grew hotter. Remembering his previous experience with freediving, Fang Yuan wanted to try it again—the sensation of being embraced by the sea was something he missed.
But before heading to the beach, he decided to grab a bite to eat. The local food stalls were famous, but the best spots were usually packed with tourists, and the food was only so-so.
Since they weren’t in a hurry, Fang Yuan wandered around, eventually finding a quaint little stall tucked away in a corner. Despite its hidden location, business was booming—the place was nearly full as soon as lunchtime started.
Fang Yuan picked an inconspicuous seat and, from the owner’s chat with the customers, could tell most of them were regulars.
Spotting the unfamiliar face, the owner came over with a warm greeting: “Hey there, you look new. Is this your first time eating here?”
