Chapter 125: Transaction x and x Attack
"Rank agreed to waive the interest," Hua Kai reported inside Wuzhou's command tent, "but he wants us to help him once. From what I gather... it seems he wants to kill Getini."
"Oh?" Lin Feirui asked, "Do you know why?"
"It appears he wants to avenge his subordinates," Hua Kai said hesitatingly. "Personally, I think we should agree. We still owe Getini three hundred thousand."
It certainly sounded tempting; killing him would mean the debt was wiped clean. But could someone like Getini be taken down so easily? "Can we still reach Getini recently?"
"No, he hasn't been responding to us. His positioning seems to be malfunctioning as well; we can't locate him."
"Go find Red Lightning."
"Him?" Hua Kai hesitated. "Right now..."
"He will agree to such a small request." Lin Feirui said, "Tell him we only need a way to contact him, not his exact location or a meeting. Have you contacted Galivil's side?"
"I did. But they said no, they don't even have enough for themselves," Hua Kai said with a hint of frustration. "They need Universal Points to purchase those limited-edition equipment and items. We can't offer any higher interest."
"Fortunately, I wasn't really counting on them anyway." Lin Feirui mused. "We have people on our side who want to buy as well, don't we?"
"Yes." Hua Kai's voice lowered slightly. "Some seem very interested in Wang Luo's approach of renting era-appropriate equipment."
"That might not necessarily be a good solution; it could entail many problems. What is your opinion?"
"Mine?" Hua Kai brushed back a lock of hair and looked up at her. "You know. No matter where the ends of the earth might be, I will always be by your side. Your wish is my everything..."
"Stop right there. We were just playing around, you're taking this way too seriously..."
Hua Kai was rather troublesome in this regard. Would Wang Luo accept her? Should she be disposed of? Lin Feirui pondered silently in her heart.
No, there was no need to rush. "Tell them to remain calm. If we pay off the Universal Points he requested, Wang Luo should agree to let us exchange for that equipment. If they truly feel it's the right move, joining his new team temporarily is not entirely out of the question."
"Are you planning to abandon our team?"
"As long as it can be traded for something more valuable..." Though nothing was set in stone yet. "The experience points of the Wuzhou team, plus the mobile team space." And me. As an original shareholder, such a generous dowry should at least be worth half the ownership and management rights of the team. "Collaborating while carrying massive assets versus crawling over like a stray dog—they should understand the difference between the two."
"Y-Yes." Hua Kai's assent sounded somewhat reluctant.
"In any case, let's perform well in the upcoming battles first. Clear the amount he asked for, and we can discuss subsequent matters later. Understood?"
"Understood."
"Good. Summon Rank for the transaction, and gather our people. Is Yang Wentian ready to begin his operation?"
"Yes, he is preparing to lead men to clear out several surrounding Yellow Turban outposts. Are we really going with him?"
"Of course."
---
Inside this Yellow Turban outpost, there were scattered about three hundred people. A few were dependents, but the majority were combat-ready soldiers.
There were still several other Yellow Turban outposts of this kind in the surrounding area. Following Yang Wentian's orders, the revolutionary scouts prepared to launch a surprise attack here to clear the path for the advancing main army.
Yang Wentian looked at the Wuzhou team members by his side with lingering apprehension.
Although Wang Luo was mostly lenient, he was extremely harsh regarding actions that caused severe consequences. Previously, he had only tried to persuade others without doing anything that led to actual harm, which was why he was allowed to return and command the scout battalion.
However, if all these soldiers died, he would never get another chance. When that time came, he might even be driven out of the team.
How did things turn out like this? In the last scenario, he was merely a newcomer. He could have taken him out whenever he wanted (though he had never thought of doing so). How had Wang Luo suddenly transformed into a commander holding sway over a force of ten thousand? The captain of a massive team composed of dozens of veterans?
Was this real? He was still struggling to adapt to this shift in status, finding it rather awkward.
Regardless, a total wipeout had to be avoided at all costs. Casualties were normal and forgivable in battle; if the numbers were low, coordinating with other officers would allow for replacements. Perhaps he should warn them—after all, if they couldn't use NPCs as cannon fodder anymore, it would be a loss for them as well.
Lost in these hesitant thoughts, the battle had already begun.
Clad in light armor and maintaining loose formations, the scouts rushed toward the camp from multiple directions with battle cries.
The Yellow Turban soldiers inside seemed completely unprepared for an ambush, firing scattered arrows outward that caused no casualties. From Yang Wentian's vantage point, many disheveled soldiers inside could be seen scrambling to pick up weapons and hastily trying to form ranks.
The lack of training among the Yellow Turbans was evident, and Yang Wentian felt slightly relieved.
Looking again, the two sides had already clashed.
Under the officers' command (which Yang Wentian chose not to interfere with), the revolutionary forces propped up ladders and attempted to scale the wooden palisades of the Yellow Turban camp. Dozens of defending Yellow Turban soldiers managed to form a ragged line, thrusting spears toward the revolutionary soldiers on the other side. A few were stabbed and fell down; but more strikes hit the armor and were deflected. The revolutionary soldiers who climbed the palisades swung their sabers down at the enemy with devastating effect, as the Yellow Turbans' crude armor and rough shields proved fragile against sharp blades.
The scale of this skirmish was not large. Even so, moments later, the sounds of slashing, panting, battle cries, and agonizing groans began to intertwine across the battlefield. Many bled and fell, only to be trampled underfoot by others.
Leveraging their equipment advantage, the revolutionary forces broke into the Yellow Turban camp before long. Though the Yellow Turban soldiers continued to resist stubbornly, they were steadily forced back. Right around this juncture, Wuzhou's members swung into action.
Arcs of red lightning flashed across several Yellow Turban soldiers, who instantly collapsed and were finished off by the revolutionary troops nearby. Fireballs hurtled toward enemy positions, exploding and leaving several men soot-stained—though the damage was modest, it successfully sowed panic. A few gunshots rang out; while they didn't inflict massive damage on the enemy, they thankfully didn't cause much friendly fire either.
It wouldn't be long now before the enemy was routed or completely annihilated. The worst-case scenario of being ambushed had not materialized. The combat capability of the Yellow Turbans was as feeble as ever; perhaps he could move in and secure some kill credit himself.
Just as he prepared to spur his horse forward, he caught sight of a red figure emerging from outside the Yellow Turban commander's tent.
It was Wuzhou's captain, Lin Feirui.
